Abstract:

The present content analysis examines the pervasiveness and nature of the sexualization of girls’ clothing items (generally sizes 6-14) available at fifteen popular stores in the US. A moderate presence (29.4%) of sexualizing items was found. These findings are discussed within the framework of self-objectification and self-sexualization development in girls.
