Abstract:

Body Image, Weight Concerns, and Sexual Orientation:
Lesbian and Heterosexual Women Are More Similar Than Different

Two studies were conducted to examine the body satisfaction and weight concerns of heterosexual (n = 106) and lesbian (n = 140) women. Lesbian and heterosexual women had comparable levels of body dissatisfaction. Further analyses indicate important similarities and differences in heterosexual and lesbian women’s feelings about their bodies and weight.
