Improving education in Colombia: The case of the Coffee Growers Committee of Caldas

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Since early 1980s the Coffee Growers Committee of Caldas, Colombia has provided technical assistance and invested financial resources in many areas of development, including education. Initial investment was focused in regions where coffee was grown and where a minimum of 20 children were unable to access schools. Over the years, the Committee has expanded its interventions in education to all rural schools in Caldas, as well as to secondary and tertiary education. This panel will share the lessons learned to date from this public-private partnership. It will also discuss current achievements based on the results of an AED evaluation of its main programs. The lessons learned from the Colombian Coffee Growers case study can provide valuable insights to other companies and governments who desire similar partnerships as a way to invest in primary, secondary and tertiary education.
