Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

The paper will report on the findings of a November 2010 youth mapping in the Kingdom of Morocco designed to understand and resolve the contradiction between the allegedly high importance out-of-school youth place on basic education and their avoidance (especially by young men) of engaging in it. The study investigates four areas of successful socioeconomic integration: (i) education and professional training; (ii) employment; (iii) interaction with official and civil society institutions; and (iv) leisure. Within each area, each youth’s experience, aspirations and determining factors were explored. The paper focuses on youth with no or low levels of basic education. Specifically, the study was conducted with over 4,000 youth in three of Morocco’s 16 regions in connection with the USAID Youth Education Development Initiative (YEDI), implemented by AED and a local partner (AMSED).
