Abstract:

As a student of Ilia State University’s Masters of Education (M.Ed.) in Administration and Leadership Mr. Tephnadze will discuss strengths and weaknesses of the academic programs and the interrelation between the theory and practice. He will share his experience from the first action research conducted in a Georgian school through the M.Ed program and some of the challenges associated with introducing new methods of interaction between university students and the community. His account will describe the contribution of the M.Ed. practicum to building productive relations between a school and its community. His case will also share insights about how action research enabled a school to make policy changes in student assessment to improve student motivation and achievement. Mr. Tephnadze will then propose ways in which his experience with action research may be used to benefit other schools in Georgia. He will also offer insights into how the M.Ed. helped overcome cultural differences between schools, the university and communities.
