Abstract:

The development of globalization has led to a tremendous transformation of human life. People are no longer facing competition within local areas. They have to develop not only competitive ability and skills to survive in the global society but also critical thinking to challenge the changeable world. People need to construct a worldwide rather than a provincial scope or understanding in facing cultural conflicts and diversity. In order to succeed in the global world, governments and educators attempt to cultivate global perspectives in their citizens and students. In 2008, the Ministry of Education in Taiwan proposed the "2008 Main Program of Education Administration: Exploring Global Perspectives", in which four directions are set forth: modern citizens, Taiwan based, global perspectives, and social care (MOE, 2008, p. 1). Among these, developing global perspectives is the primary strategy. In this vein, teachers are encouraged to integrate global perspectives into curriculum to assist the studentsin developing their global perspectives. This study intended to figure out the strategies of integrating global perspectives into the curriculum. Literature reviews, group discussions and practicum in the class were employed in this study. Three teachers from different departments and with different professional knowledge met twice a week to have a group discussion relating to the documents and exising literature they have read, and designed lesson plans after brai storming in the meeting. A class practicum would be held after the approval of the lesson plan discussed in the meeting by different teachers. Students in these teachers' classes would participate in the study to implement the lesson plan. Classroom observation was employed to collect data for this study. After analyzing the outcome of the data, this study concluded that the strategies of integrating global perspectives into curriculum would be developed through current issues, international news, music preference, and financial policy discussion.
