Investigating the cooperative mode of new technology curriculum development integrating senior high school and higher education

Abstract:

To improve the quality of teaching in science and develop the curriculums of emerging science and technology, the Department of Science Education in National Science Council in Taiwan initiated a project called “Project of High Scope”. The project emphasizes the establishment of collaboration between senior high schools and universities to improve the quality of teaching in science through the cooperative mode of development curriculum. This curriculum actively promotes the “bottom up” curriculum development model. The fields of the project contain many new technologies, such as nanometer, green technology, wireless network, etc. This paper examines the development and implementation of the emerging science and technology curriculum in the senior high schools in Taiwan. In the study, we investigate: (a) the process of developing curriculums of emerging science and technology, (b) the difficulties that the teachers have in developing curriculums of emerging science and technology, (c) the teachers’ professional growth in developing the curriculums, (d) the attitudes toward technology of the student, (e) and the learning satisfactions and learning results of the students attending the curriculums of emerging science and technology.
