Abstract:

This presentation will be experientially-based rather than research-based so the criteria of ‘clarity of research methods’ and ‘clarity of theoretical framework’ are not directly applicable.

A critical element for the success and sustainability of the AGSP model is community engagement. AGSP promotes participation of various types of community organizations in the education of their youth.

AGSP works closely with local NGOs, mentors, women’s associations, parents’ associations, and community leaders to foster local ownership of educational activities.
This presentation will highlight AED’s work building the capacity of its African NGO partners to ensure they have the required skills to manage international donor funds and implement cost-effective scholarship programs.

The success and sustainability of the AGSP model also requires active community engagement. AGSP promotes participation of various types of community organizations in the education of their youth.
Several cases where AGSP has successfully engaged local communities to promote greater awareness of and appreciation for the value of education, particularly girls’ education, will be highlighted.

The transition from passive consumers to active managers of education brings with it a marked shift in social and gender norms and behavior.
