Abstract:

Goal: This study is firstly to describe or to review the development of international & comparative education research in eight countries, i.e. Germany, Australia, America, France, UK, Japan, China, and New Zealand. Secondly, to explain the context of international & comparative education research and its instutionalization in these eight countries. Thirdly, to compare the international and comparative education research development and its merits in eight countries. Fourthly, to analyze the relationship of international organization to the development on international & comparative education research in these eight countries. Finally, to provide Taiwan with implications for the future proliferation and improvement of international and comparative education research.
Methods: This study adopts historical approach, document analysis, and comparative method.
Findings: This study addresses 7 issues in comparative and international education research encounters: paradigm shift and dispute, perspectives of comparative and international education research in 8 countries, developments and institutionalization of comparative and international education research in 8 countries, challenges from the dialectics between globalization and localization, relationship and influence between international/cross-national organization and 8 countries, and the shortage of review on comparative and international education research in 8 countries.
