Abstract:

This paper examines the theoretical, political, and operational genesis of the Youth Action Research Council (YARC) as an integrated component of the Main South Promise Neighborhood Initiative (MSPNI). In it, the authors examine the theoretical framework and political rationale for constructing space and voice for youth to serve as leaders and researchers in the development of the MSPNI. Additionally, this paper explains the process and its rationale for forming the YARC and how a diversity of Main South Youth perspectives were incorporated. Connected, this research project explores the strategically created opportunities to incorporate youth perspectives into other committees in the MSPNI.
