Abstract:
|
Black masculinity and issues of leadership regarding the state of the black male is at the fore of research on identity, education, and leadership development. This paper presents findings of a study conducted at an African American all-male liberal arts college located in the southeast. The students who represent this study are enrolled in a humanities course that uses Hip-Pop Leadership Pedagogy (HPLP) to develop the authentic leadership capacities of its students. The findings are grounded in the student exploration of the narratives of Man on the Moon - The End of Day , the first commercial album from rapper/actor Kid Cudi. The album as a medium to investigate the "language of authentic leadership.” "The Kid Cudi Lesson" is a unit on leadership that explores themes of identity, purpose, knowledge, and the construction of knowledge in relation to the cultivation leadership from the perspective of an African American male. |
