For the purposes of the current research, dynamic features and interactive features will be examined together under the term “interactive features.” Chung and Nah (2009) determined that interactive features predict satisfaction with online news websites. i Based on the assumption that the availaibility of interactive features enhances perceived satisfaction, the following hypothesis is posited: H2: Use of interactive features positively predicts ones’ level of perceived satisfaction with an online community newspaper. Online News Credibility Credibility is an important variable to examine in communication research and has received attention in many areas within mass communication. The influence of credibility on interactive features and multimedia also warrants further examination. Sundar (1998) commented on the ambiguity among communication researchers regarding how they define sources. Communication research on credibility has primarily looked at two domains of credibility, source and medium (Kiousis, 2001). Source credibility has focused on communication characteristics while medium credibility has focused on the channel. Abdulla, Garrison, Salwen, Driscoll, and Casey (2005) examined the issue of online news credibility by looking for similarities and differences between traditional and online news sources; they found that readers of online news are very concerned with bias and the possibility of bias.
