Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

One of the least known legacies of the Illinois Black Panther Party is its creation of the original Rainbow Coalition. The history of racial coalition politics in Chicago is directly linked between Fred Hampton, Harold Washington, Jesse Jackson, and Barack Obama. This history is a continuation of the Illinois Panther's racial coalition politics by Harold Washington and also a history of appropriation of this particular form of politics by Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama. The paper will document and analyze the aforementioned connections and legacy of the Illinois BPP's Rainbow Coalition.
