Abstract:

Placentophagy is the consumption of the placenta after birth. Respondents completed an internet survey, and the majority had heard of placentophagy. A small number of participants (3.3%) had eaten human placental tissue. Future research should explore the effects of consuming human placenta, as well as changing attitudes toward placentophagy.
