Abstract:

The Superwoman Ideal is a gender-role expectation that women be perfect in multiple capacities. The increasing visibility of superwoman characters in popular culture and media raises questions about the effects these portrayals have on other women. This experiment investigated whether exposure to superwomen in the media encourages superwoman thought patterns.
