A Hairy Situation: The rejection of body hair in contemporary culture

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

The study presents a class, cultural and co-modification critique of the new dimension of beauty for women: hairlessness. The emerging ideal of a completely hairless body as being distinctly feminine not only minimizes women’s adult status, but also provides another beauty standard that cannot be achieved naturally by any woman.
