Knowledge Exchange Workshops on Desistance

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

This panel introduces and discusses an innovative transatlantic project to increase and share knowledge about the process of desisting from crime that was funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council and supported by the Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence(ACE!) at GMU. The project was a collaboration between Fergus McNeill (Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, University of Glasgow), Shadd Maruna (University of Belfast), Steve Farrall (University of Sheffield), Claire Lightowler (Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services), (Institute of Criminology & Criminal Justice, Queen's University Belfast) and Faye Taxman (GMU).

Stage 2 involves running workshops where criminal justice stakeholders discussed the evidence presented in the film and explored the implications of this for criminal justice practice. The workshops primarily focused on where the criminal justice system is working well to support the desistance process, exploring how this success can be strengthened and emulated in an attempt to develop new frameworks for practice development. At ASC we can either run a workshop or present findings from several workshops.
