Abstract:

This study uses secondary data to examine the impact the ownership has on the economic goals of ethnic newspapers. A comparison between 24 newspapers owned by ethnic groups (media-by) and 24 newspapers for ethnic groups (media-for) showed a pattern consistent with media-for newspapers being more interested in making a profit, while media-by newspapers are more dedicated to serving the ethnic groups.
