Abstract:

The current study investigated relationships between L2 perceived fluency and frequency, duration, and distribution of silent pauses. 30 English listeners rated 80 speech samples on fluency level using a 9-point scale. Multiple regression analysis was conducted on fluency ratings with frequency, duration, and distribution of silent pauses as predictors.
