Abstract: We examine the market risk exposure and diversification value of single-listed ADRs and dual-listed ADRs during the 2004-2012 period. We find that both types of ADRs provide no diversification value, but are directly exposed to U.S. market risk. Finally, we find that portfolios of single and dual-listed ADRs behave significantly different than their home market.

In pre-election polling, the lure of using registered voter lists is obvious: a shorter field time, more productive interviewing and lower costs. However, using lists results in non-coverage error that can be substantial and is often unknowable. CBS News developed a strategy for avoiding non-coverage while retaining many of the operational advantages of calling from registered voter lists. The paper will discuss the biases found in listed samples, including which types of voters and households are most likely to be omitted and how those biases impact survey design and results. The paper will report on several tests of the CBS News coverage strategy, using pre-election polls in South Dakota and South Carolina to examine costs, coverage and accuracy of pre-election estimates and will assess the possibility of utilizing this method in other circumstances.

Abstract: This paper explores the methods by which women’s nonconnected (unaffiliated with a party, candidate, or corporation) PACs create identities for themselves that will both appeal to potential donors and at the same time, create and maintain a place for the organizations themselves in the relatively resource-poor political arena. The frames used by each organization reflect both its party and ideological commitment but also its position vis-à-vis similar organizations within the political field. I argue that there is an important status component to donation requests such that well-established organizations already perceived as powerful and influential must be careful to maintain that perception in their communications with potential donors. Newer, smaller organizations and particularly those with a smaller constituent base need have fewer concerns about their donors’ perceptions of their status and can come much closer to “begging” for donations. In an initial attempt to explore how this status differential affects the frames used by organizations in their fundraising solicitations, this paper compares the frames used by two women’s identity PACs, located at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of party and political ideology - EMILY’s List and the Susan B. Anthony List.
