"Boccaccio e la poesia come "vero conoscimento": La riscrittura del Piramo e Tisbe e "le ornate bugie" dell'allegoria" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the RSA Annual Meeting, Humboldt University of Berlin, Berlin, Germany, <Not Available>. 2019-11-19 <http://citation.allacademic.com/meta/p752749_index.html>

Abstract: In my presentation I intend to explore the presence of the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe in Boccaccio's early works in order to study his inclination toward a kind of writing that is not necessarily allegorical, but that he achieves by writing works that cannot be defined as strictly realistic literature. I propose the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe as a point of departure for a study of Boccaccio's methodology: I claim that he needed the repertory of myth and allegory to elaborate his realistic writing within an idea of poetry and literature that both is 'useful' and transmits knowledge.

Abstract: The mobile phone revolution currently sweeping Africa is nothing if not exciting. The continent boasts the highest mobile telephony growth rates in the world, and opportunity for investment abounds. There can be no question that Africa is well on its way to experiencing a communications revolution, yet much remains for African governments still to do. While a limited number of governments have liberalized their telecom sectors, the remaining states must follow suit. Those that have liberalized now must shift their focus to regulation and tax reduction. In addition, governments must promote universal access, particularly to rural areas, and e-learning and e-health initiatives: such provisions for the common good are seldom—if ever—provided by an unfettered market. They must also focus on making a second revolution happen for their societies: an information revolution, for across the continent, access to information available over the Internet remains at extremely low levels. Fortunately, Africa’s governments can take advantage of the availability and affordability of new technologies—VoIP, for example—as well as learn from the experiences of other developing countries, to meaningfully enter the e-society.
