Abstract: The United States’ educational purposes and policy intents are often unrealized in educational practice (Vinovskis, 2009). This study was undertaken to describe P-12 districts’ responses to legislative mandates, seeking to understand how P-12 districts respond to policy mandates; test organizational theories for their value in predicting districts’ responses; elaborate a model for explaining districts’ responses across contexts; and evaluate policies for their instrumentality in leveraging improved student outcomes.

Abstract: As the demand for skills in P-12 educational leadership changes, school districts respond by recruiting principal candidates with specific credentials, experiences, and dispositions. In this study we analyzed 279 job advertisements for principals from 7 states. This document analysis details experiences, dispositions, knowledge, skills, abilities, leadership styles, and personality traits that were required or preferred in these advertisements. The findings inform P-12 school principal job seekers as well as educational leadership preparation programs

Abstract: Purposes are twofold: (1) to review research on leadership education in ethics, and (2) examine a pedagogic intervention designed to raise consciousness about ethical leadership and learning within graduate school. A yearlong study is the basis of the development and impact of an ethics unit. Understandings of ethics regarding leadership preparation standards and social justice orientations for preservice cohorts are analyzed. Being committed to K–12 students’ interests as a professional ethic is the outcome.
